Sangkaan Festival 2026: Tandag Confirms September Programme

Tandag City has confirmed the programme for the 14th Sangkaan Festival, which runs from 4 to 10 September 2026 in Surigao del Sur.

The Philippine Information Agency published the dated programme on 3 September, one day before the opening. The schedule combines faith-based observances with cultural competitions, community services, environmental activities and public performances.

Confirmed 2026 programme

  • 4 September: Kasalan sa Parokya, a parish wedding at the San Nicolas de Tolentino New Cathedral in Barangay Rosario.
  • 5 September: DagKal run for progress, coastal and river cleanup, Du’mbaling Food Bazaar and evening performances.
  • 7 September: Grand Parade and Grand Opening Program, Kapiskay social and health services, and Hugyawan 2026.
  • 10 September: Concelebrated Mass followed by performances and fireworks at Vicente L. Pimentel Sr. Boulevard.

The confirmed lineup also includes the Sangkaan Street Dancing Competition, the Search for Sangkaan Festival Queen 2026, a pickleball tournament, GKK Night and a theatrical showdown. The current announcement does not assign dates or detailed visitor access information to every activity, so attendees should check the City Government of Tandag’s official festival notice for same-day changes.

Why the update matters

The programme gives residents and visitors firm dates for the parade, community activities and closing rites rather than a general festival window. It also places environmental work and local food alongside the public cultural events.

The Department of Tourism describes Sangkaan as an ethnic festival built around street dancing, tribal music and a historical battle narrative. Visitors planning a wider trip can use Festive Pinoy’s Caraga region guide and its guide to Bislig City in Surigao del Sur for regional context.

What is still unconfirmed

Organisers had not published complete starting times, routes, road closures or final competition rules for every event in the sources checked on 4 September. Those details should be treated as pending until the city releases event-specific advisories.
